Zoopla adds Houseprices.co.uk to portfolio

Consumer property website Zoopla has acquired property price information service Houseprices.co.uk in a deal that will see the two internet businesses continue operating as separate brands.

Zoopla, which is planning a major marketing drive after securing £3.25 million last month from existing venture capital investors Atlas Venture and Octopus, plans to set up links between the two websites, which are both free to access, rather than merge the titles and data.

Launched in 2005 by founder Dan Winchester, Houseprices.co.uk compiles Land Registry data to provide users with sold house price information for England and Wales. According to a Zoopla statement, more than one million internet users visit the website each month.

Founder and CEO of Zoopla, Alex Chesterman, says the company is a ‘natural fit’ for Zoopla. He adds: ‘This acquisition adds to the growing list of websites that we now either own directly or power exclusively, extending our reach even further.’
