Yell buys TrustedPlaces

Business directory and search engine Yell has acquired reviews website trustedplaces.com.

Business directory and search engine Yell has acquired Trusted Places and its reviews website trustedplaces.com.

The purchase, which was for an undisclosed sum, will be followed by the integration of the customer reviews feature of TrustedPlaces.com into Yell.com.

Private equity backed TrustedPlaces was launched in 2006, and has around 700,000 users a month. It contains reviews of hotels, restaurants and various leisure activities.

Mark Canon, president of new media at Yell in the UK, says: ‘This represents a significant growth opportunity. We all know that recommendations help local businesses to attract new consumers, so Yell.com and TrustedPlaces are a perfect fit.’ 

Under the deal, Sokratis Papafloratos, chief executive and co-founder of TrustedPlaces, will join Yell as head of social products in the UK.
