Available in the UK from October, the latest offering from Canadian telecommunications company Research in Motion features a 624 MHz processor, 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen, optical trackpad and 5 megapixel camera.

It’s a competitive marketplace out there, with the EVO4G, iPhone 4 and Galaxy S all jostling for smartphone supremacy, but the Torch 9800 holds its own, enjoying good connectivity and a nicely functional click-through touchscreen and slide out keyboard, offering the best of both worlds for your tapping fingertips.

With the pace of innovation rendering the latest phones obsolete at an alarming rate, the Torch 9800 may not be the brightest tech gadget on the block for too long. For instance, it lacks the function to play quality 3D games, a shortcoming that won’t have escaped the attention of a good portion of the smartphone-buying demographic.

Still, for the business-minded, the Torch’s variety of features for a retail price of £569.99 may well light up your boardroom.
