The company’s chief executive George Mackintosh and chairman Jon Richards also contributed to the round, which brought total investment in TestPlant since its formation to £1.5 million.

Mackintosh says the company’s strategy of focusing initial efforts on its two major markets, defence and IT, is paying off.

He adds, ‘Unusually, and perhaps unfashionably, we’re fully funded for 2009 and our customer base and strong balance sheet will support our drive to take market share from the sector giants.’

James Bruegger, an investment manager at Seraphim Capital, comments, ‘There’s solid organic growth potential for the business and we continue to look for opportunities to grow the operation by acquisition.’

TestPlant acquired US-based Redstone Software in September last year, and has offices in London and Colorado. Its flagship product Eggplant is intended to “see” as the human eye sees in order to identify potential problems with software before it is released.

Seraphim Capital manages an Enterprise Capital Fund (ECF) consisting of £10 million of private investment and £20 million of UK government money. The fund was the first ECF to be launched in 2006.
