On-demand laundry and dry cleaning app expands into five UK cities

Laundrapp co-founder and CEO Ed Relf wants the online service to be as revolutionary as the hugely successful Uber, he has told Growth Business.

The business offers door-to-door laundry and dry cleaning services through a mobile app. It currently operates in and around London but has announced plans to expand into a further five UK cities.

The service will be available in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester.

Laundrapp was founded in 2014 and launched at the start of this year. CEO Ed Relf was previously CEO of Mind Candy and COO Antony Pink was formerly a strategist at Accenture.

The business is also backed by £1.5 million of seed funding led by Rupert Hambro and Dominic Perks.

Relf told Growth Business he sees home washing as a more direct competitor than traditional high-street dry cleaning services.

“We want to wage a war on the washing machine,” he said. “At first our audience mostly consisted of your professionals who are both familiar with mobile technology and short on time.

“But we’ve found that a wide range of people are now using the service. We’ve been blown away by the response and the feedback we’ve had.”

Relf added that he hopes the “disruptive and innovative technology” used can make Laundrapp the “Uber of the laundry industry”.

“We’re looking to carry on the upward trajectory of the business with this new city expansion,” he said.
