1.WebEx man joins Twinfield

Bert van der Zwan, former EMEA vice president at webconferencing company WebEx, is the new chairman of Twinfield, a provider of online accounting services. The move is a ‘direct consequence of the growth Twinfield has realised in recent years’, says André Kwakernaat, the company’s MD and co-founder, who adds that van der Zwan’s international experience in the software-as-a-service sector will help him guide the company to further growth. An accountant by background, van der Zwan has also
worked at network vendor 3Com.

2.McPhail aims for success

Wilkins Kennedy, a business advisory firm with 12 offices in the South of England, has appointed ex-Bank of Scotland (BoS) director Colin McPhail in the new role of head of client services. The post, which has a business development focus, will span the corporate finance and recovery areas of the business, along with tax and audit. McPhail was director of major corporates at BoS, prior to which he was regional director of asset-based lending firm GE Commercial Finance. He also spent ten years at Five Arrows, the asset lending division of NM Rothschild.

3.New chief for Smart ID

Cheshire-based software company Smart Identity has appointed ex-Novell sales director David Nicholls as its new MD. Nicholls, who was responsible for Australia and New Zealand at Novell, says the PLUS-quoted company is ready for a new phase of growth after investing in its technology and staff. He replaces Scott Fletcher, an ex-colleague from Novell, who now becomes non-executive chairman. The company will continue to focus on its single sign-on and unified communications tools, which it supplies to the NHS as well as private sector clients.
