Ennstone, a supplier of a diverse range of products and services to the construction, building, drainage and rail sectors, has acquired a purchase option for a US firm.

The purchase option of a Virginia-based sand and gravel supplier is expected to be exercised early next year for some $35 million (£16.8 million).

Ennstone has also acquired two Scottish firms – limestone quarry owner The Boyne Bay Lime Company and concrete block manufacturer DW Gordon Bricks – for a total £4.6 million.

Employer to more than 1300 people throughout the UK, USA and Poland, Enstone has also recently acquired Deep Creek Ready Mixed, comprising two ready-mixed concrete plants in Maryland, US.

Ennstone chairman Vaughan McLeod said: “Since receiving the proceeds of our placing and open offer earlier this year we have been extremely active in acquiring bolt-on assets.

“The acquisitions continue our stated strategy of increasing our mineral reserves, particularly in the US and Scotland, and improving and protecting the routes to market for our existing resources.”
