The Eagle Lifestyle LSL-50 is an electric bike, or ebike, designed and built by UK-based EBCO. The company confidently predicts that the UK is ‘on the edge of an ebike revolution’, and quotes data from website Bike Europe that reveals sales of ebikes will reach more than one million this year across Europe.

Whether the take-up in the UK will be quite as impressive as in other countries remains to be seen – in Switzerland sales of electric bikes soared 85 per cent between 2008 and 2009. EBCO has launched a series of ebikes that combine function with unusual design in a bid to corner the market.
The LSL-50 is touted as the commuters’ choice due to its “low step” frame, which makes it easy to mount and dismount in office attire. The Eagle LSR-50 model differs in design only, incorporating a crossbar into its more conventional frame.
The bikes use lithium polymer batteries that last for 500 charges on average and take five to six hours to charge from flat. The power settings control how much power is delivered by the motor and dictate the amount of effort required on the rider’s part. In ‘eco’ mode, EBCO boasts that this particular model can travel up to 50 miles on a single charge.
The £1,750 price tag suggests that this ebike will appeal to cyclists with a green conscience – and a healthy bank balance.
