A London-based supplier of technology and consultancy to the homeland security industry, Digital Barriers, has bought Essential Viewing Systems (EVS).

The deal, for £4.85 million, is based on an initial consideration of £3.4 million upon completion, and a deferred payment of up to £1.45 million payable at the end of EVS’ current financial year (31 December 2011). The deferred payment is subject to certain performance conditions.

EVS is a UK-based provider of surveillance products and according to a statement released by the company, AIM-listed Digital Barriers believes that EVS’ products will enable the delivery of video across highly constrained bandwidths, overcoming a significant problem for a wide range of organisations across the surveillance market.

Tom Black, executive chairman of Digital Barriers comments: ‘This [acquisition] brings to Digital Barriers some truly compelling technology with great potential within the international homeland security market.

‘I am confident that [EVS has]  a set of potentially market-leading products that can solve a number of significant challenges for our customers around the world.’

Under the terms of the deal, existing EVS management and product development teams will remain with the business upon completion of the acquisition.
