Software-as-a-service (SaaS) business Citrix has acquired virtual desktop company RingCube.

The deal, for an undisclosed amount, ‘solidifies’ Citrix’s ‘leadership position in desktop virtualisation’.

RingCube technology is used to speed up virtual desktop usage by making it easier for IT to give a user a personalised desktop.

Virtual desktop services work by expanding the size of a computer’s desktop environment beyond its physical limits.

Bob Shultz, group vice president and general manager for enterprise desktops and applications at Citrix, comments: ‘The acquisition of RingCube underscores our chief goal of enabling users to access their desktops and applications on any device, and making virtual desktops simple and affordable for IT.

‘RingCube technology adds a significant capability to provide users and IT flexible, personal VDI desktops at a much lower cost.’

The deal follows a similar transaction made by Citrix in May when the SaaS business purchased Kaviza, a deal aimed at expanding its presence in the SME market.

Founded in 1989, Citrix is headquartered in Florida and has offices in the UK. It is listed on NASDAQ.
