Communications and technology group Aegis has acquired a minority stake in TigerSpike for a total of $11 million (£6.83 million).

Founded in 2003, TigerSpike provides personal media multi platform technology for devices such as mobiles, tablets, e-readers and smart TV. Based in Sydney, Australia, the business has offices in New York and London

According to a statement TigerSpike is ‘well positioned’ to support Aegis Media in penetrating this ‘fast-growing’ segment of the marketing communications market.

Jerry Buhlmann, chief executive of London-headquartered Aegis, comments: ‘Aegis’s corporate investment strategy remains focused on innovation and our investment in TigerSpike is consistent with this strategy.

‘TigerSpike’s technology platform is ideally content to a range of mobile media devices. Our investment in TigerSpike will therefore support us in offering clients truly convergent services.’

Additionally TigerSpike owns a cloud-based software service delivery division, Phoenix, which allows clients to distribute content and services across personal media devices. TigerSpike has clients including the Daily Telegraph, The Economist, Tetrapak, Pepsi and Diageo.

Founder and chief executive officer of TigerSpike, Luke Janssen, says that the deal will enable the TigerSpike to remain at the ‘forefront of the growth opportunities’ in its market.

Janssen adds: ‘Aegis’s global reach and leadership position in helping brands communicate with customers will enable us to accelerate our rapid growth and offer a range of services to our customers going forward.’

The deal for TigerSpike takes Aegis’ deal count for 2011 to five with an acquisition drive which has taken the communications and technology business to South Africa, Norway, Lithuania and Canada.
