The Capita Group purchases Technophobia in deal worth £6.3 million

Outsourcing business The Capita Group has made its second acquisition in a week with the purchase of Sheffield-based Technophobia in deal worth £6.3 million.

The buy brings to Capita a company that provides web applications and hosting for businesses such as Co-Operative Bank and Pizza Express. The deal follows the company’s £40 million deal for Right Document Solutions Holdings.

According to Capita, the acquisition adds value and efficiencies to its existing capabilities, and will enhance its web based information management services including websites, intranets and extranets for public and private sector customers.

As part of the deal Emma Marshall will remain as managing director of Technophobia and the buy will be a stand alone entity in the IT Services division, according to a statement released by the company.

Paul Dawson, business director of systems integration at Capita, comments: ‘Competition is tougher than ever in the private sector and having a website that is easy to navigate, intuitive and integrates neatly with other channels of communication is essential.’

Web platform providers Technophobia were listed at 69th in the 2010 Sunday Times Tech Track 100.

Managing director of Technophobia, Emma Marshall, comments: ‘Becoming part of the Capita Group offers us fantastic new opportunities to support our plans to grow the business whilst allowing us to retain our own unique character and […] approach to business.’

In what has been a busy year for the BPO providers, Capita has now secured five acquisitions in 2011, including Xayce and Talis Information.

The Capita Group employs 37,000 people across 350 sites, with 34 of those in the UK, Ireland and India.
