Round-up of today’s M&A deals
Television production company Tinopolis has made its another acquisition with a deal which increases its turnover to £140 million.
Following its acquisition of Los Angeles-based A Smith & Co Productions for £50 million in June, Tinopolis has now added production company BASE Productions. Financial details of the purchase were undisclosed.
Founded by its joint chief executives John Brenkus and Mickey Stern, BASE Productions the business has its own studio and production facilities at its headquarters in California and offices in Washington DC.
Amongst the best known of its programmes are Sport Science, a long-running series for ESPN and Known Universe and Fight Science for National Geographic.
Tinopolis employs 600 in the UK and 500 in the US. Its post-acquisition turnover of £140m is evenly split between the UK and the US.
Accordint to a statement BASE Productions will be able to tap into the company’s worldwide resources and enjoy enhanced access to the UK for its non-scripted productions.
As part of the deal BASE Productions will continue to maintain its independence as a production company.
Tinopolis executive chairman Ron Jones comments: ‘Tinopolis is an example of what can be achieved in Wales when public money and the entrepreneurial spirit come together.
‘I hope that even in these difficult economic times we have the ambition in Wales to spend our public procurement money to support those local companies that have the talent and the determination.’
