Anyone who has had to attend a meeting in a big city will have been hampered by delays. Driving is slow and environmentally dubious, and public transport has a tendency to leave you wondering where it all went wrong.

The solution? Get on your bike. As featured in a recent episode of the BBC’s Top Gear, the Specialized Sirrus is a top-of-the-range city bike. Having beaten Jeremy Clarkson’s power boat and James May’s Chelsea tractor from one side of London to the other, cycling, it seems, is officially the fastest way to get around in the big smoke.

Its carbon-fibre frame and forks mean that it is super lightweight, making it easier to dodge taxis and less strenuous to ride. Two Specialized all-condition pro tyres will help you glide along with ease and barely even break a sweat.

The Sirrus is a hybrid, which means that it combines the speed and agility of a road racer with enhanced ergonomics and the control of a flat handlebar, touring bike. But such a combination doesn’t come cheap at around £1,700. With that in mind, it is certainly worth investing in a sturdy lock to keep it safe.
