Spice Plc, a Leeds-based provider of infrastructure support services for utility companies, has acquired telecommunications company ComGroup Australia Pty for A$14 million (£6.9 million).

Spice acquired telecommunications business Simoco in 2002. Since the acquisition, Simoco and Australia-based ComGroup have worked together on major projects and operated an R&D joint venture.

Simon Rigby, CEO of Spice, commented: “Spice has taken the opportunity to reunite these two businesses as a result of the strong demand for ComGroup’s products within our utility client base. The acquisition strengthens our capability to manage complex distributed systems where flexible telecoms solutions are essential to our client’s network operations.”

In the year ending April 2009, Spice reported revenues of £386 million and operating profits of £30.8 million.
