Israeli solar cell specialist BrightView has completed a $6 million (£4.3 million) Series A round of venture capital funding.

The round was led by existing investor, Israel Cleantech Ventures, along with German-based Hasso Plattner Ventures.

As part of the deal, Eyal Harel, the former co-president of NASDAQ-quoted printed circuit board specialist Orbotech, has joined BrightView as chairman. Israel Cleantech Ventures partner Glen Schwaber has also joined the board.

Schwaber remarks, ‘The company’s competitive advantage stems from applying Israel’s recognized leadership in the semiconductor and flat panel display industries to the growing market for solar process equipment.’

The investment will enable BrightView to launch its technology commercially by the end of the year, according to co-founder and CEO Benny Shoham.
