Six Degrees Group has added a Central London date centre to its portfolio by purchasing BIS for an undisclosed amount.
The transaction represents the thirteenth acquisition in a year and a half, following the formation of Six Degrees by British entrepreneur Alastair Mills.
Independent data centre operator BIS provides corporate colocation and private cloud services from London and brings with it a reported £16 million of new revenues.
Furthermore, Six Degrees says that the acquisition will add ‘significant scale’ to its hosting portfolio and develops its presence in Europe’s data centre market.
Speaking to GrowthBusiness, Mills, CEO of Six Degrees, says, ‘What is important for us is to have our own proprietary data centre which is controlled from the front gate, all the way through security, through plants and machinery, all the way to the racks.
‘Having that gate-to-rack control is important and we wanted to find another facility which was geographically diverse from Birmingham and ideally in London, which still remains the digital capital of Europe.’
More on Six Degrees Group:
BIS is said to add 200 customers and 30 people to Six Degrees. Following the hiring of 80 additional staff by Six Degrees during the past 12 months, the business snow has 250 employees and a run-rate revenue of £70 million.
Six Degrees was first launched after securing £60 million of funding during 12 months.
The business, which focuses on the managed data services sector, followed the sale in November 2010 of Mills’ previous venture, SpiriTel, to AIM-listed communications business Daisy Group for £27 million.
More on Alastair Mills:
Six Degrees was set up through the acquisitions of data centre provider UKSolutions, technology business NetworkFlow and voice player Protel. It is supported by investment from Penta Capital, which backed SpiriTel.
Other acquisitions closed by Six Degrees include Cloud Computing Centre, data network business Datahop and managed hosting and cloud providers Firstserv and Serverstream.
