Engineering services company Robotic Technology Systems (RTS) has acquired US manufacturer Hatch Science.

Chris Brown, chairman of Manchester-based RTS, which specialises in automated production processes for life sciences and manufacturing businesses, says that the deal increases its presence in North America and provides complementary skills and product lines.

Hatch Science develops scientific instruments for the pharmaceutical and medical industries. The Massachusetts-based company reported turnover of $448,000 (£287,000) and operating losses of $798,000 in 2009.

In the six months ending June, RTS generated revenue of £5.5 million and pre-tax losses of £100,000.
