Building services company Rotary UK has acquired the family owned maintenance business CA Sothers.

Chester-based Rotary UK is a subsidiary of the Australian-owned Hastie Group that last year declared a turnover of A$1.6 billion (£1 billion). Established in 1954, Rotary provides building services such as fire protection and refrigeration and air conditioning. The company has bases across the UK.

Rob Kirkham, business development director at Rotary, comments: ‘Sothers will bring valuable local and technical knowledge as we continue to expand our business across the UK, and work towards our vision to be the provider of choice for building services to the most advanced industry standards.’

Birmingham-based CA Sothers is a mechanical and electrical installation and maintenance services provider. The company was founded in 1919 and has clients in sectors including healthcare and education. Under the terms of the deal CA Sothers’ managing director Robert Hinton and the current management team will remain with the company.

Law firm Cobbetts advised Rotary UK on the acquisition. Graham Muth, the partner who led the deal team for Cobbetts, says: ‘Sothers is a strong strategic fit for Rotary, which has already established a presence across much of the UK. The acquisition will enable the company to build market share in the Midlands through Sothers’ hard earned reputation for excellence throughout its long history.’
