Reading IT companies merge

Thatcham-based technology firm Applinet Plc has merged with Theale-based Unified Group, and the combined entity will trade as Proximity Communications. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Thatcham-based technology firm Applinet Plc has merged with Theale-based Unified Group, and the combined entity will trade as Proximity Communications. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Unified Group supplies voice and data communication products, while Applinet provides communications services. Both businesses will operate from its new headquarters in Newbury.

Post-completion, the new company will have a turnover of some £10 million and serve more than 200 customers including the British Red Cross and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Darren Boyce, chief executive of Proximity, commented: “The Thames Valley is renowned as a hotbed for IT companies and we want to continue to invest in the region’s reputation as a technology incubator.”
