Defence technology and security company QinetiQ has strengthened its consultancy business with the acquisition of Oxford-based Commerce Decisions, a private venture capital-backed provider of tender assessment and management software for £9.85 million.

The deal will boost QinetiQ’s consulting offering and complement its portfolio in capability definition and acquisition support. It will also bring sales opportunities for Commerce’s tender evaluation software through QinetiQ’s sales channels.

Commerce’s software supports the tender assessment and management process for both buyers and suppliers. Its clients include most UK central government departments, the NHS and local authorities. The software is also used by the UK Ministry of Defence.

Commenting on the acquisition, Clive Richardson, CEO of QinetiQ said: “I am delighted to welcome the management team and employees to QinetiQ and am confident they will make a significant contribution to the continued growth of our advisory business.”
