Believe it or not, you can now buy your very own man-made floating lair – although it may take a little longer to build it.
Think back to the James Bond classic, The Spy Who Loved Me, and recall evil villain Stromberg’s Atlantis hideout. What was once a creation of Hollywood producers’ imaginations has now become a reality you can purchase this Christmas – although it may take a little longer to build it.
Believe it or not, you can now buy your very own man-made floating lair. Project Utopia has been unveiled by Yacht Island Design and naval architects BMT Nigel Gee. Yacht Island’s website explains loftily, ‘Before trying to understand the design one has to examine why the greater majority of yachts have evolved to the traditional form that has derived from millennia of engineering and naval architecture. Once the mind is free from these constraints the possible forms that a concept might take are wide ranging.’
But before you open the piggy bank to invest in a new 11-story floating office with several helipads, an observatory, boat mooring and full climate control, be warned that it does not come cheap. Firebox, a gadget website listing Project Utopia, says the price of your floating island is likely to amount to several hundred million ‘minimum’.
