Object of desire: The MonoTracer

The thrill and glamour of a motorbike, without getting your leathers wet. That’s the proposition offered by the MonoTracer from Swiss company Peraves.

The two-seater vehicle goes from 0 to100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and its top speed is billed as over 250 km/h (155 mph). Adrenalin junkies will also be excited to hear that the MonoTracer can lean to about 52 degrees – on a clean dry road of course. Needless to say, you don’t use your feet to maintain balance when you stop at a light; instead, the vehicle has retractable wheels.

Swiss-manufactured goods are not known for being cheap and this one’s no exception, with a basic price of €52,500 (£41,700) excluding VAT. But hey, it’s not just for kicks – you can commute to the office in it too, as long as you’re prepared to put up with snide hints about a mid-life crisis.
