Mothercare has acquired the retail brand Blooming Marvellous.

The deal, which was for an undisclosed amount, consists solely of the trademark and brand of Blooming Marvellous, which Mothercare plans to introduce across its network.

Blooming Marvellous is a designer and retailer of maternity and children’s clothing, as well as childrens toys. The Cumbria-based company was founded in 1983; in 2007 was acquired by the Icelandic retail fund, Kcaj LLP.

Mothercare sells products aimed at mothers and young children, including clothing, nursery furniture and toys. The company has 1,167 stores across 53 countries and in 2009/10 declared sales of £766.4 million. Mothercare also operates the brand the Early Learning Centre, which is a retailer of educational toys for young children.

Ben Gordon, Mothercare’s CEO, comments that Blooming Marvellous is a good strategic fit within Mothercare.
