Medical services provider Medicals Direct Group has acquired competitor company, Medibureau.

London-based Medibureau was established in 2000 and has 18 staff. The company provides services to life insurers, such as arranging medical testing, collecting medical evidence and handling the medical aspect of claims. Medibureau also provided absence management services to corporate clients. The acquisition was for an undisclosed sum.

Mike Benton, founder and CEO of Medicals Direct, comments: ‘The synergies in services and client base make Medibureau a natural fit for us; of particular note is the potential for service enhancements its high-calibre proprietary software and systems will bring when integrated with our own technology.’

Middlesex-based Medicals Direct Group provides risk management and medical services for insurers, employers and individuals, and directly employs around 250 people. The company underwrites 400,000 lives per annum on behalf of life insurance and bancassurance companies, and had a 2009 turnover of approximately £20 million.

The latest acquisitions are predicted to take the group annual turnover to around £30 million.
