MCR Property Group has expanded its operations into Liverpool from its Greater Manchester stronghold after it bought two buildings on Merseyside. The group has added student accommodation properties Agnes Jones House and Cathedral Campus to its portfolio in deals totaling £28 million.

Agnes Jones House comprises 366 beds and was sold by Liverpool Housing Trust, while the 425-bed Cathedral Campus was bought from Liverpool John Moores University.

The properties, which are situated in the city centre, were bought with the backing of two undisclosed building societies and takes the number of large private halls of residences in MCR’s residential division to four.

MCR’s residential manager, Nick Lake, tells Growth Business that moving into Liverpool is a natural progression for the group: ‘Liverpool has a lot going for it at the moment. Obviously, everyone is sick to the back teeth of mentioning the capital of culture but it is a big thing.’

Manchester-based MCR is a residential and commercial property company, which also has a development business. It currently manages more than 2,000 bedspaces in the North West.
