Virginia-based McGuireWoods is a 900-strong law firm and has a network of offices across the US, as well as in Brussels and Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Richard Cullen, McGuireWoods chairman, commented: “This is a great day in the history of McGuireWoods. We have sought to expand our overseas reach with a London office for some time. We are very fortunate not only to gain as partners such a talented group of internationally respected lawyers, but also to join forces with a firm that shares our values.”

GMR is a corporate and banking boutique that specialises in cross-border work, with particularly strong links to the Nordic region, Russia and the CIS, China and the Middle East. The deal will become effective as of 1 May 2009.
