Computer security company McAfee has agreed to buy database protection business Sentrigo.
The deal, for an undisclosed amount, comes less than a month after McAfee was acquired by computer chip manufacturer Intel for £4.7 billion.
US-based Sentrigo provides software which protects databases in a ‘real-time’ format with updates.
McAfee, which has offices in the UK, will use Sentrigo to enable the business to ‘extend its database security portfolio’.
Dave DeWalt, president of McAfee comments: ‘The integration of Sentrigo and McAfee will provide customers with the highest level of security across their database environments.’
Nathan Shuchami, CEO of Sentrigo believes that the purchase has come at a ‘critical time’ in terms of the amount of database breaches that are occurring.
He adds: ‘The regular stream of public breach announcements is evidence that we must all do much more to protect mission-critical database environments.’
Under the terms of the deal staff at Sentrigo will work as part of McAfee’s risk and compliance business, which is headed by senior vice president and general manager Stuart McClure.
