Mark Pearson invests £250,000 in ShareMyPlaylists

The founder of online discount business MyVoucherCodes, Mark Pearson, has continued a move into angel investing, committing £250,000 in growth capital to online music organiser ShareMyPlaylists.

The funding will enable ShareMyPlaylists, which claims to be signing up 400 new members a day, to ramp up sales and marketing initiatives, particularly online through social media.

Founded by Kieron Donoghue in March 2009 and relaunched last October, ShareMyPlaylists is a resource for users of the online music service Spotify to share and explore Spotify playlists, which are pre-planned lists of a variety of songs. The site is free and can be used by people across the world.

Donoghue comments, ‘I’ve known Mark for many years, and his skills in growing a business like MyVoucherCodes.co.uk into the massive brand that it is today will be welcome. We’re looking forward to working together.’

It is the second angel investment for Pearson this year. In May, he injected £1 million in angel investment to user-generated news start-up Blottr.

Pearson, who is chairman of Markco Media, says ShareMyPlaylists ‘represents everything that inspires me about the newly emerging media platforms that the internet can offer’.
