The Stockton on Tees-based company was bought by Phil Burgess, Ian Vickers and Chris Darby, and backed by private equity group Enterprise Ventures. The group supported the deal through the Coalfields Enterprise Fund, which it manages on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

SIS provides surveying and mapping services to major contractors and consulting engineers, mainly in the rail and waterways industries. Its annual revenues are around £2 million.

The company employs 24 people and offers services including topographic surveying and site access planning.
