Lumison makes IT services acquisition

UK-based Lumison has acquired Blue Square Data, which provides network and server storage services, in a deal worth £22 million.

Lumison, which provides similar data centre services, was acquired by Bridgepoint Development Capital in October 2010.

Mark Howling, executive chairman of Lumison comments: ‘The acquisition of Blue Square Data will more than treble the rack capacity we can now offer our customers, and extends our catchment area of potential customers across the UK.’

As part of the deal, the existing management will remain in place, and group technical director of Blue Square Data will assume the same role as part of the combined group.

Alan Payne, partner of Bridgepoint Development Capital, says the acquisition is part of its ‘organic growth’.

Payne adds: ‘Data centres are scarce assets and the acquisition of the Blue Square Data […] fits perfectly into our overall “buy and build” strategy for its broader expansion within the important SME IT services market.’
