London-focused The Capital Fund has invested £250,000 – as part of £350,000 total fundraising – in regional marketing information business The Local Data Company (LDC), which plans to use the cash to extend its geographical reach.

LDC claims to possess the UK’s most accurate in-depth database of city centre businesses and local places of interest, currently offering information on some 80,000 individual locations within 30 towns and cities. With The Capital Fund’s backing the plan is to now increase these figures to 350,000 and 100 respectively, making the data even more appealing to search engine operators, city guide publishers and the like.

The likes of Lastminute.com, ThisisLondon and the Daily Telegraph have already been signed as customers and managing director Barnaby Oswald asserts that ‘we aim to offer comprehensive and accurate data to a range of customers, including mobile and internet firms who are looking for rich content.’

‘LDC already has a significant, high quality, detailed and up-to-date database that supplies a variety of well-known clients,’ adds The Capital Fund’s Stuart Nicol. ‘We anticipate that as the company grows it will become an increasingly valuable acquisition for a larger data provider.’
