Just-Eat in £10.5 million Series A round

Skype and Last.fm investor Index Ventures has led a £10.5 million round of funding into Just-Eat, a website allowing consumers to order food online.

Other investors in this first institutional round of financing for the company include Venrex Investment Management, with existing shareholders in Just-Eat also participating.

Ben Holmes, a partner at Index, says, ‘The home delivery market is growing at nine per cent per year and it has proved to be a profitable business even in recessionary periods.’

Adds Holmes, ‘Just-Eat has the best technology and processes in the industry as well as a strong team and proven traction among consumers and restaurants.’

The company, which markets its service to local, independent restaurants as a way to reach a wider audience, is currently operating in six Northern European countries including the UK. It is now planning expansion into new territories.
