ITV has taken a 25 per cent stake in Carbon Media, an independent production company, for £1.1 million.

The transaction was completed through ITV’s production arm, ITV studios, and also includes a £150,000 development facility for Carbon Media over a five-year period.

Lee Bartlett, ITV Global Content managing director, told the press: “This deal fits our strategy for the future which is all about investing in the type of specialist talent that will help us to expand our content production into new areas.”

Carbon Media founder Mike Smith added: “This investment enables us to broaden our output to cover a broad base of factual and entertainment genres, and what’s clear is that ITV Studios fully backs our continuing relationships with all the main UK broadcasters built up over the last five years.”

In September, ITV acquired a 51 per cent interest in Berlin-based TV production business Imago TV Film.
