ITV plc has sold its 50 per cent share in Liverpoolfc.tv as part of its ongoing disposal strategy. The move follows ITV’s divestment of its one-third interest in Manchester United Television (MUTV) in November last year.
Liverpool Football and Athletic Grounds snapped up the Liverpoolfc.tv stake for £15.8 million, plus repayment of approximately £3.5 million of debt. The consideration comprised £10.5 million cash, with the balance of £5.3 million due in December 2008.
Liverpoolfc.tv is an official website delivering news, mobile ringtones, text updates, live match commentary and match highlights.
Jonathan Rogers, director of operations, ITV Channels, describes the disposal as another step in ITV’s non-core disposal programme, which has seen the company raise more than £600 million since the 2004 merger.
Manchester United bought ITV’s stake in MUTV, a television channel dedicated to the football club, for £3.3 million, upping its interest to two thirds with BSkyB owning the remaining third.
