What were the reasons behind the deal?
AMA offers an ecological consultancy as well as a wind energy team, which complements our services and gives us a strong platform for growth. The business also has a good geographical spread, with offices in Exeter and Sheffield. It strengthens our regional presence.
How long did the deal take?
We had our first meeting last summer and by the end of the year we were going through the due diligence. The only delay was from our side because this wasn’t the only acquisition we were working on.
How has the recession affected your business?
Business was a bit more subdued last year. We had to let a few people go, which was unfortunate, but we’ve always focused on cash management and we’re in a good position to take advantage of the upturn.
Do you think the UK is doing enough to help the environment?
The government can always do more, but the regulations are in place and they have a timeframe. There’s more pressure to divert waste from landfill and more energy has to come from renewable sources.
Will there be other acquisitions?
We’ve made five acquisitions in the last 18 months and we’re actively looking for more. We’re already operating in Ireland, Canada and the US and we’re looking at expanding into Australia.
