Ingenious backs Orange Lights debut album

Ingenious Music VCT 2, which invests in independent producers and distributors, is backing the first album of five-piece group The Orange Lights. The investment of £824,000 is a joint venture with Blackbird Records.

Hailing from Newcastle, The Orange Lights was formed by Paul Tucker, formerly songwriter and keyboardist for easy listening duo Lighthouse Family, and includes vocalist Jason Hart, who toured as a guitarist with English rock band Spiritualized.

Though Tucker never achieved a number one UK single with Lighthouse Family, six of the duo’s singles were in the top 20, and the group’s total record sales are in excess of 11 million, according to Ingenious.

The new album will be distributed by independent US outfit Alternative Distribution Alliance, through Warner Music Group. Marketing is headed by Ben Turner of Graphite Media, who runs the label and also manages The Orange Lights.

Duncan Reid, commercial director of Ingenious, says: ‘This deal once again underlines Ingenious’s commitment to help launch emerging acts.’

Ingenious Music VCT 2 has funds of £26.5 million and has been closed to new investment since April last year.
