- Microsoft has announced its first major deal since failing to buy Yahoo, with an agreement to buy web-based survey company Greenfield Online for $486 million (£265.8 million)
- Carbo Ceramics has entered an agreement with Halliburton, to sell a portion of the assets of its subsidiary Pinnacle Technology for $137 million (£74.9 million)
- South African mobile phone operator Vodacom, which is half owned by Vodafone, has agreed to buy African network and satellite services firm Gateway, for $675 million (£369 million)
- Lufthansa plans to pay 65 million (£52.3 million) for a 45 per cent stake in Brussels Airlines, with an option to buy the rest of the company in two years
- Dutch insurer Aegon said it plans to buy 50 per cent of the insurance business of Spanish firm Caint of the insurance business of Spanish firm Caixa Terrassa for 190 million (£153 million)
- CastlePoint Reinsurance Company has agreed to purchase Hermitage Insurance Group for $135 million (£73.7 million)
