Glen Dimplex, a manufacturer and distributor of electrical heating and domestic appliances, has welcomed new brands to its portfolio after buying Applied Energy.

Glen Dimplex, a manufacturer and distributor of electrical heating and domestic appliances, has welcomed new brands to its portfolio after buying Applied Energy.

The acquired company, which manufactures and distributes a range of ventilation, heating and water heating products, was bought for an undisclosed sum.

Glen Dimplex’s chief executive, Sean O’Driscoll, said this deal is part of the company’s strategy of expanding its portfolio. “Applied Energy’s excellent brands and presence in the UK market complement our existing range and exposure.”

Dublin-based Glen Dimplex’s brands include Dimplex, Morphy Richards and Belling with the deal adding the Xpelair, Creda and Redring names to its business.

Applied Energy was sold by Jenny Michelman and Simon ffitch at private equity firm Graphite Capital.

Graphite has held a stake in the business since it backed managing director John Lee’s £24 million buy-out from a GE and Marconi joint venture in 2001.

Michelman said Graphite has supported Applied Energy in the past six years but its new parent company has the expertise to support its expansion plans.
