German deal for Datatec

Information communications technology (ICT) business Datatec has made a purchase through its subsidiary, US-headquartered Westcon.

The deal, for German-based entrada Kommunications, is a said by South Africa-based Datatec to enhance its German presence and expand into a new geography to provide better service for its European customers.

Kommunications distributes IT security products and provides sales support and training services. Financial details of the deal were undisclosed.

Datatec chief executive, Jens Montanana, says: ‘The acquisition of the second largest security distributor in Germany allows Westcon to significantly penetrate Europe’s biggest economy.’

Montanana adds that, combined with Westcon’s German presence, entrada’s Swiss operations will provide a better service.

Founded in 1996, entrada has a portfolio of products which includes MacAfee, Juniper and Riverbed.

The deal is the second this month for Datatec following its acquisition of Netarx for £21.1 million through subsidiary business Logicalis.

In March, through Logicalis, Datatec secured the purchase of business analytics company Inca Software for £7.3 million.

For the year to date 28 February 2011 Datatec recorded revenues of £2.7 billion and EBITDA of £89 million.

During the same financial period Westcon accounted for 74 per cent of Datatec revenues and 66 per cent of its EBITDA.
