Afonwen Laundry, which has two sites in Wales and a sister company in Leeds, has received funding of £1 million from Finance Wales, an arm of the Welsh Assembly Government.

The debt funding will enable 74-year-old Afonwen to embark on a marketing drive to grow its 500-strong client base, which includes hotels throughout Wales and England.

The company has invested £11 million in its business since 1999, including money secured from the Welsh Assembly Government. This has allowed it to open a new facility in Cardiff in June last year and introduce a “premium linen service”, using Egyptian cotton, to some clients.

Mark Woolfenden, MD at Afonwen, says, ‘We now have a large client base throughout Wales, the North of England, Midlands, South West England and across the M4 corridor to London, [and] we are building on this.’
