Bernard van Bilderbeek of Plexus Holdings has walked away with Entrepreneur of the Year at the ninth Grant Thornton Quoted Company Awards.

Having founded oil engineering business Plexus in 1986, Bernard van Bilderbeek has been recognised for his efforts at the Grant Thornton Quoted Company Awards.

Also highly commended in the category was Ray Anderson of Bango, who the judges noted had created a ‘world-leading’ business in a fast-changing marketplace.

Hosted by GrowthBusiness sister publication Growth Company Investor, the event recognised companies quoted below FTSE 350 through AIM to PLUS.

Last year’s Entrepreneur of the Year accolade was handed over to Darren Throop of Entertainment One.

Having moved to the main market, the company behind Peppa Pig scooped Deal of the Year for its acquisition of Alliance Films at last night’s ceremony. The transaction saw the independent film distributor’s share price climb 16 per cent on announcement.

More from previous Quoted Company Awards:

The AIM to Main gong went to Playtech, a business founded in 1999 by Israeli billionaire Teddy Sagi. Gaming software business Playtech initially joined AIM in 2006 and in June made the move to the Main Market, where it is now a member of the FTSE 250.

In other deal related prizes, Snoozebox Holdings walked away with IPO of the Year for closing an offering which raised £12 million on joining AIM and a subsequent £8 million six months later.

In other individual awards: John Poulter of 4imprint  collected Chairman of the Year; Finance Director of the Year acknowledged GB Group’s Dave Wilson and Martin Towers of Lupus Capital scooped Non-executive Director of the Year.
