Defence technology business Ultra has made two acquisitions in the US totaling $114 million (£73 million).

The two acquisitions, of Special Operations Technology (SOTECH) for $38.4 million and Zu Industries (Zu) for $76.6 million, bring to Ultra two businesses which provide cyber surveillance.

The purchases of Zu and SOTECH are to be financed using Ultra’s existing facilities with the purchase of Zu a bolt-on purchase to ProLogic, its Information & Power Systems division.

Commenting on the deal for SOTECH, Rakesh Sharma, chief executive of Ultra, says that the deal supports its strategy of growth in the transatlantic intelligence and security markets and broadens its access to the US government sector.

He adds: ‘SOTECH is an established provider of operational solutions that meet the strategic needs of the US and international government for communications surveillance that can create actionable intelligence.’

Sharma says that there are ‘significant’ synergies between the two acquired businesses.
