Global computer giant Dell has purchased Force10 Networks as it looks to expand its ‘enterprise portfolio’ and grow its datacentre networking products and services.

Force10 supplies services that virtualise and automate conventional datacentre and cloud networks. Financial details of the deal were undisclosed.
The deal follows Dell’s acquisition of Compellent in 2010 for $820 million. The deal brought to the computer manufacturer a business that provides storage services for cloud computing.
‘Today’s datacentre networks are too complex and require too much manual intervention, what worked in the past is no longer viable in the virtual era,’ says Brad Anderson, senior vice president of Enterprise Solutions Group at Dell.
Anderson adds: ‘Dell’s approach aligns with Force10’s approach of offering customers new levels of flexibility, performance, scale and automation which is fundamental to changing the economics of datacentre networking.’
With networking going under significant change with the growth of cloud and virtualisation the acquisition is said by Dell to complement its strength in servers.
US-based Force10 was founded in 1999. It also has operations in India which Dell plans to use to add engineering and sales capabilities.
Force10 had reported revenues of $200 million for the 12 months previous.
Advisors for the deal were Evercore for Dell and Deutsche Bank for Force10.
