• Quotient Bioresearch, a provider of drug development services, has acquired an Edinburgh-based clinical research facility from Charles River Laboratories, a global research model and preclinical, clinical and support service specialist. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
• Daiwa Securities SMBC Europe, a London-based subsidiary of Japanese investment bank Daiwa Securities SMBC Co, has acquired Close Brothers Corporate Finance for £75 million in cash.
• BakBone Software Inc., a San Diego-based provider of data protection services, has acquired ColdSpark, a Somerset-based provider of email infrastructure services for up to $15.9 million (£10.4 million).
• Dorset-based insurance company Alan & Thomas Insurance Brokers has acquired local rival Douglas King Insurance Services. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
