Preston-based construction company Darbyshire Group has agreed to acquire Welsh firm TPT Construction for £7 million.

Darbyshire Group is led by 19-year-old entrepreneur Gareth Darbyshire, who intends to build his portfolio of development and construction companies into a £50 million group.  The company currently has a turnover of £8 million and employs 45 people.

Swansea-based TPT specialises in providing construction services to local authorities and is currently involved in developing schools and hospital extensions across Wales. Gareth Darbyshire commented: “TPT currently operates mainly in the public sector, which ensures its future prospects in these difficult times.”

Darbyshire has plans to extend TPT’s operations across the UK. He said: “Over the past three decades, TPT has become a sector leader in Wales, and we intend to capitalise on its reputation and highly skilled workforce to create a UK brand.”
