Stoke-on-Trent based flexible packaging supplier Cliffe Packaging has acquired a division of Structure-flex.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, extends Cliffe Packaging’s product range, which already includes bulk-packaging used in the food, pharmaceutical and bulk chemicals industries.

The acquisition enables Cliffe to add flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC) to its range of products. These are large sacks used to store and transport materials such as sand and fertilisers.

David Dawber, Cliffe Packaging managing director, comments on the deal: ‘The acquisition of [Structure-flex’s] polypropylene FIBC product range provides our business with a springboard for significant global expansion.’

Structure-flex, which is based in Norwich, will now concentrate on other divisions of production.

Ian Doughty, managing director of Structure-flex, comments: ‘The sale of our no longer core polypropylene FIBC business will enable us to focus on further growth in other divisions of our business.

‘We will now be concentrating on the design and supply of re-useable bulk containers for demanding applications and an increasingly diverse range of customer-led specialist products.’
