Former Charlton Athletic footballer David Campbell has led a management buyout of wealth management services group Tilney, with financial support coming from private equity house Bridgepoint Capital.

Tilney, which provides a range of wealth management services to high net worth individuals, operates from a network of sites across the UK, with offices in London, Liverpool and Edinburgh to name but three.

The company has expanded aggressively through acquisition in recent years and, hints Campbell, the relationship with Bridgepoint should ‘enable us to continue to pursue both organic and acquisitive growth strategies’ going forward.

Bridgepoint succeeds US investment group Refco as Tilney’s main financial backer, though exact details of the transaction have yet to be revealed.

Corporate finance boutique Livingstone Guarantee, which previously advised on the businesses sale to Refco in 1998, was once again instrumental in the deal and has now completed a total of six transactions, worth a combined £300 million, since the turn of the year.
