Insurance group Bluefin has acquired St Albans-based Gilbert Business Insurance Brokers (GBIB).

Established in 1982, GBIB is primarily a commercial broker with around 2,300 business and personal clients; in 2008 it joined the Bluefin Broker Partner Services network. The acquisition was for an undisclosed sum.

Bluefin has over 3,000 employees in over 80 offices across the UK, and says it is planning further acquisitions to increase its geographical presence, including in the South West, Wales, East Midlands and Northern Scotland.

Bluefin chief executive Stuart Reid says: ‘Hot on the heels of our acquisition of G M Towns in Peterborough, we are pleased to announce this second acquisition in the region. GBIB is well known to us as a member of our network and they have both a good client bank and an excellent reputation in the area.’
