Far from saving time, mobile devices such as BlackBerrys have led to some UK workers putting in an extra ten days a year.

Around one in seven respondents to a survey conducted by loyalty scheme Nectar Business state that constantly checking, filing and deleting messages has added an extra one to two hours to their working week. That adds up to an extra 9.9 working days on average, according to Nectar.

In addition, more than a fifth of UK workers keep their phones on over the weekend, with almost a quarter feeling stressed because they are ‘always on call’.

James Caan, star of BBC show Dragons’ Den says that despite the increasing importance of technology in business, face-to-face communication is still essential.

Adds Caan, ‘It’s important to remember that your clients and suppliers buy into the people as well as your product or service.’
